Nonostante un impegno di non concorrenza (che al momento del distacco dall'Alfa Romeo precludeva per quattro anni a Enzo Ferrari la costruzione di automobili che portassero il suo nome), l'Azienda avviò anche lo studio e la progettazione di un vettura sportiva, una spider 8 cilindri 1500 cc, denominata 815, che fu costruita in due esemplari e partecipò alla Mille Miglia del 1940

Al termine del conflitto l'Azienda assunse la denominazione "Ferrari" e progettò la vettura 125 Sport, 12 cilindri, 1500 cc, che, affidata a Franco Cortese, debuttò sul circuito di Piacenza l'11 Maggio 1947.La macchina si ritirò ma era in testa all'ultimo giro e l'inizio fu considerato molto promettente
